“I like to open the doors to people’s brain” – Philippe Starck
Philippe Starck is a French product designer and probably the best known designer in the New Design style. His designs range from interior designs to mass produced consumer goods such as toothbrushes, chairs, and even houses.
Whenever we discover an object or a place designed by Philippe Starck, we enter a world of wall-to-wall imagination, surprises and fabulous fantasy. He was educated in Paris at the École Camondo and in 1968, he founded his first design firm, which specialized in inflatable objects. Starck has worked both independently as an interior designer and as a product designer since 1975.
Starck’s most notable product designs include an “Optical Mouse” for Microsoft, the sleek “Juicy Salif” created for Alessi as well as the plastic transparent “Louis Ghost Chair”.
Hardly any other designer causes as much excitement and has received quite as much praise as the French Universalist Philippe Starck. His designs display such a simple, almost amusing reduction that one could believe this form has always existed. And yet Philippe Starck reveals it all to us.
