Park Hyatt Hotel, Sydney

Sydney’s iconic harbour front hotel, Park Hyatt Sydney, reopened after the largest and most comprehensive renovation in thehotel’s 21-year history. Its rooms, spa, restaurant, and bars were closed for over ten months to complete the extensive makeover that features new rooftop suites, fully-upgraded guest rooms, and fully-remodeled public spaces. Regional building materials were used in an effort to echo elements of Sydney’s past and present. The original 1990 foundation was rebuilt of traditional Sydneys and stone, historically used as a canvas for aboriginal rock carvings and as a building material by local architects dating from 1788. The boardwalk surrounding thehotel’s entrance was reconstructed using spotted gum, a timber native to a number of regions in Australia. Melbourne-based design firm BARStudio created a stylish and intimate interior. Most rooms have floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open onto spacious private balconies offering stunning views of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour. The bathrooms were fitted with Kaldewei Classic Duo Oval baths with a special anti-slip finish to ensure luxurious bathing whilst staying in this beautiful hotel. images: courtesy of Park Hyatt Sydney Photographer: David Mitchener Interior Design: BARstudio

Hotel Bel-Air, Hollywood

The sprawling complex in Los Angeles’ exclusive residential Bel Air neighbourhood is one of the most noted hotels in the world, and for good reason. Even Hollywood legends such as Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant and Marilyn Monroe have valued the Hotel Bel-Air for its luxurious and private atmosphere. Lush gardens surrounding the establishment built in Spanish colonial style have long since made for a special air of peace and seclusion in the heart of the busy city of Los Angeles. In 2009 the hotel closed for extensive renovations, only to reopen two years later in even grander style and glamour. Headed by the noted design offices of Alexandra Champalimaud and the Rockwell Group, the hotel icon was modernised without losing any of its unique charm. The stylish interior design features a remake of the characteristic aesthetic appeal of the Bel-Air and is at once intensely modern and inviting. 89 guestrooms of the Bel-Air now feature Kaldewei Centro Duo baths to provide bathing pleasure of the finest. Designed by noted design studio Sottsass Associati in Milan, the bath made of high-quality Kaldewei steel enamel 3.5 mm uniquely combines timelessly elegant design with exclusive comfort to integrate optimally with the hotel’s aesthetic style.

nhow Hotel, Berlin

Interior designer Karim Rashid continued to blaze new trails with his designs for the hotel's bathrooms. With much sensitivity and feeling, he created forward-thinking trends and used modern style elements to design luxurious, individual worlds that will leave a lasting impression with the hotel's guests. In 45 rooms the New York-based designer followed the creed "As reduced as necessary, as comfortable as possible" with free-standing Kaldewei baths to add visual accents and invite guests to lie back and relax. The models Classic Duo Oval Wide by the renowned Milan design studio of Sottsass Associati combine classic elegance with puristic design, shining with their timeless, balanced shapes and harmoniously enhancing the stylish, confident design language of the bathroom. Particular highlight: the elegant single-piece panelling. It emphasises the high design standards, harmonising perfectly with the classic form of the bath and offering complete freedom when positioning the bath in the room. Rashid chose white baths for all 45 rooms, with various colours for the panelling that were skilfully used by the designer to create exciting contrasts. Thirty baths with white panelling and eleven with luxurious black panelling adorn the bathrooms – and in five bathrooms the baths have unusual lavender panelling for an exclusive touch in a different colour.
